Derivatization methods for the determination of organotin compounds in environmental samples
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the analysis of organotin compounds, derivatization is required in order to achieve more volatile compounds prior to the use of techniques based on GC separation. Derivatization can be considered as one of the main critical steps in organotin analysis, since low yields of derivatization and losses of analytes can easily occur at this stage, and lead to an underestimation of their content in environmental samples. Furthermore, experimental conditions which are not perfectly under control may induce degradations, and alter the original speciation in the sample. Hydride generation, and alkylation by Grignard reagents or by NaBEt4, are the derivatization methods usually applied for organotins. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods are reported. z2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Direct determination of the organic extent of tin species in environmental samples by X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES)
Introduction Organotin compounds have been used since the 1960s as an effective antifouling agent in paints applied to ships and aquaculture nets in the marine environment. However, organotin compounds cause damage to nontarget marine organisms by leaching from the coating applied to boat hulls into the marine environment. For Sn analyses, speciation of the organotin compounds has been of great...

The concurrent determination of pesticidal and non-pesticidal organotin compounds in several water matrices, using a simultaneous in situ ethylation and liquid-liquid extraction followed by splitless injection mode capillary gas chromatography with pulsed flame photometric detection, is described. The speciation analysis of nine organotin compounds includes low molecular weight low boiling (non...
متن کاملImproving the Analysis of Organotin Compounds Using Retention Time Locked Methods and Retention Time Databases Application
The analysis of organotin compounds is becoming increasingly important in both environmental analysis and in food and consumer product analysis. This application note describes a retention time locked (RTL) gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) method for the analysis of derivatized organotin compounds. Three retention time locked libraries are made available, corresponding to three diff...
متن کاملComprehensive-Trace Level Determination of Methyltin
With the development of industry and agriculture, organotin compounds are widely used as stabilizers, catalysts, and biocides.1 The use of organotin compounds as antifouling paints has led to deleterious effects for nontarget aquatic life even at low levels below several ng L–1. The fate of organotin compounds in the environment involves biotic and abiotic dealkylation processes leading to the ...
متن کاملSpeciation of Tin Compounds in Environmental Samples
Speciation, identification of the chemical states of elements in the environment, is indispensable in determining the environmental behavior, bioavailability, and the influence of elements on the quality of the environment. For speciation, X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) is a powerful tool, because it is a direct method by which we can avoid the change of the chemical state of target ele...
